Social Support Group Volunteers

The Social Support and Respite program runs group activities for people who live at home and are over the age 65 (or over 50 and identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander), on a Home Care Package or are adults under 65 with a disability or NDIS participants.  The program assists group members to build friendships, access the community and maintain independence.

  • Work alongside staff and assist in facilitating the planned activity for the day, either centre or community based.
  • Set up the tea and coffee station.
  • Assist with the setup of tables for morning tea and lunch.
  • Assist members unable to help themselves to morning tea.
  • Assist with serving of meals as requested by the cook.
  • Take part in the group activities with a positive and encouraging outlook.
  • Provide support to clients when arriving and leaving for the day, such as escorting clients to buses, cars and taxis.
  • Accompany staff on the bus to collect the social support participants, assist them in the planned outing in the community (e.g. shopping, lunch out, visits to local attractions etc.) and then drop the participants home.

Calling all Costume Makers and Musos!

Are you handy with needle and thread or a sewing machine?  Do you enjoy a bit of creative costume making?

Our very own inclusive physical theatre company BoilOver wants to hear from you!  BoilOver puts on regular stage performances and would love a hand to help make their costumes.  BoilOver is based in Sunbury but you could also easily create from wherever you and your sewing box reside.  Time commitment is flexible, depending on show schedules.

We are also on the hunt for musically talented individuals who might enjoy providing backup music for BoilOver workshops and events.  You do not need to be a professional, a love of music and the ability to play one or more instruments is a very good place to start.

Please note that safety checks (working with children’s check, NDIS worker screening, national police check) are required for these roles and are at no cost to you.

For enquiries email: boilover@scchc.org.au

Parent-Child Mother Goose Co-Facilitator

We are looking for volunteers to help with our Parent-Child Mother Goose program.  Volunteers would be required for about three hours a week to help the program facilitator run this fun music, rhyme and storytelling program for pre-school children and their parents and carers.  The program currently takes place in Gisborne on Monday mornings, Romsey on Tuesday afternoons and in Kyneton on Thursday mornings.  We are particularly in need of someone to assist with the Kyneton group.

Volunteers are not required to have any specific qualifications or experience working with children but those interested will be offered training which involves an introduction to the songs, rhymes and stories used in the sessions and learning the theory behind the program.  Parent-Child Mother Goose enhances the bond between children and their parents and helps to connect families in the community.  For more details on the position, click here.  If you are interested, contact Tracey Thiele on 5421 1666 or email tracey.thiele@scchc.org.au.
