There are many benefits of working at Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health including generous salary packaging benefits and leave entitlements, flexible working arrangements, professional development opportunities and a genuine commitment to staff health and wellbeing.

Salary Packaging

At Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health we offer competitive salaries and as a not-for-profit organisation we are able to provide access to generous salary packaging benefits.

Staff can use up to $15,900 per year to pay for everyday expenses before income tax is calculated, meaning you pay less tax and have more money to spend.

In addition, by salary packaging meal entertainment benefits, you could enjoy tax-free savings when you dine out.  Staff have the option to salary package up to $2,650 of meal entertainment expenses which could save you hundreds of dollars each fringe benefits tax year (1 April – 31 March).  There is the option to have a two in one salary packaging and meal entertainment card which provides instant access to your salary packaging funds so you’re never out of pocket.  Simply pay as you go.

Novated Leasing

Salary packaging a car, also known as a novated lease, is one of the most cost effective and convenient ways to buy and run a car.  Like other salary packaging arrangements, when you package your car you pay a portion of your vehicle’s costs out of your salary before tax is calculated.  This reduces your taxable income and increases the money you have to spend.  Whether you’re looking to buy a new or used car, getting started is easy and unlocking your potential savings doesn’t come at the cost of choice, flexibility and convenience.  Novated leasing is available through our salary package provider Access Pay.

Leave Loading

Leave loading is an extra payment given on top of annual leave pay.  Also known as holiday loading, it is one of the many important leave entitlements we offer our employees.  Depending on your award or agreement, leave loading is usually around 17.5% extra pay on top of your annual leave pay.

Leave

We recognise that taking leave is essential.  It promotes good physical and mental health in the workplace and improves people’s work-life balance, which reduces stress and unscheduled days off.

If you are looking at making a move from a public hospital to community health, you may be eligible to bring your leave entitlements with you.

At Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health we offer a variety of paid and unpaid leave:

  • Annual Leave provides permanent and fixed-term employees with recreational time away from the workplace.  Staff accumulate annual leave each year based on ordinary working hours and in accordance with their enterprise agreement.
  • Parental Leave – staff are able to access paid parental leave at their full rate of pay in line with the entitlements outlined in their enterprise agreement.  This can be taken as either as paid leave at full pay or at an increased duration at half pay.
  • Personal Leave – full-time employees are entitled to ten personal leave days per year.  The leave is pro-rata for part-time employees.  Unused sick and carer’s leave is carried over to the next year.
  • Special Circumstances Leave – in the event that an employee requires leave under extenuating and rare circumstances including but not limited to gender affirmation, major life disruption, serious illness or injury, access may be granted under ‘special circumstances’ to cover their absence.
  • Purchased Leave – allows staff to purchase leave in addition to their normal annual leave entitlements (most enterprise agreements allow up to four weeks of additional leave).
  • Study Leave – in today’s fast-paced business world, learning and development is crucial to remaining competitive.  That is why we invest in our staff’s education and training and offer study leave to those studying subjects relevant to their employment.
  • Defence Leave is a form of unpaid leave.  This leave is accessed when a Reservist is called upon to perform military duties or participate in military training.
  • Community Service Leave – all staff, including casual employees, may be eligible to community service leave for certain activities such as voluntary emergency management activities.
  • Cultural and Ceremonial Leave – employees who identify and are accepted as members of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities are entitled to paid leave (up to a maximum of five working days) and leave without pay (up to a maximum of five working days) per calendar year to fulfil ceremonial obligations.
  • Domestic and Family Violence Leave – any staff experiencing family or domestic violence can access ten days of paid family and domestic violence leave each year.  This includes full-time, part-time and casual employees.
  • Compassionate Leave provides employees with paid leave during the difficult period following a life-threatening injury or illness to, or the death of an immediate family or household member.

Flexible Working Arrangements

Flexible working arrangements are welcomed at Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health.  These include:

  • Working from home – this could be a permanent, temporary, regular or ad hoc arrangement
  • Flexible start and finishing times
  • Working part-time hours or job sharing
  • Compressing full-time hours into a shorter duration (e.g. nine day fortnights)
  • Accruing paid time off instead of receiving overtime payments (if entitled)
  • Working additional hours to make up for time taken off in lieu of taking other forms of leave
  • Activity placed-based outreach working

Professional Development

We invest in our people so they can continue to grow with the organisation.  All staff receive a comprehensive introduction and orientation to the organisation where they have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the policies, procedures and compliance frameworks that guide the work that we do.

There are also ongoing opportunities for professional development such as mentoring, internal advertising of all vacancies, as well as attendance and presentations at conferences and events.  Additionally, most of our enterprise agreements allow for study and examination leave.

We also provide inclusive practice training for all employees.

We also hold an annual staff development day which is an opportunity for the whole organisation to come together and engage in a range of professional development and team building activities.

Staff Health and Wellbeing

At Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health we ensure that employee health and wellbeing is at the core of our employee experience.  We are committed to supporting the positive mental health of our staff, believing that good mental health and wellbeing of all staff contributes to staff satisfaction, the provision of quality services and organisational sustainability.

Examples of initiatives that are in place at the organisation include:

  • Fitness Passport – a health and fitness program providing its members and their families with discounted access to a wide choice of fitness facilities close to their home and work.
  • Employee Assistance Program  – a free and confidential counselling and support service which is offered through our provider Telus Health.  It is available to all employees and their immediate family members in their household.  In addition to counselling services, Telus health also has discounts available to employees who sign up for various retails stores.
  • Regular health and wellbeing activities such as fitness challenges, shared lunches and afternoon teas and RUOK? Day activities.
  • Employee health and wellbeing intranet page – a central, easy to use resource that helps staff put their health and wellbeing first.
  • Employee voice intranet page designed to give everyone a space and opportunity to share how they feel about their workplace. It is a safe space for staff to contribute their views and influence matters that affect them at work.
  • Flu vaccinations – staff can choose to take part in our fully subsidised flu vaccination program. Employees can choose to get vaccinated on site, or use a voucher system to access a local outlet that suits their needs.
  • Fresh fruit delivered each week to each site.
