LGBTIQA+ Awareness Training

Our Healthy LGBTI Ageing team is offering some training for staff and volunteers who work with older LGBTIQA+ people.

Rainbows Don’t Fade with Age LGBTIQA+ Awareness Training is being delivered by Val’s LGBTI Ageing and Aged Care.  It aims to increase your understanding of the impact of historical discrimination on older LGBTIQA+ people, and their willingness to engage with services and community groups, and will help you feel more confident to respond to the needs of older LGBTIQA+ people.

Topics covered include:

  • LGBTIQA+ language, terminology and identities
  • Older LGBTIQA+ people – their identities, histories, experiences and needs
  • Contemporary impacts of history and experiences of ageing
  • Good practice requirements for  supporting LGBTIQA+ people

Dates

Join us for one of two sessions:

  • Thursday 3 April, 1 – 3pm: Hume Global Learning Centre, 44 Macedon Street, Sunbury
  • Wednesday 9 April, 1 – 3pm: Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health, 1 Caroline Chisholm Drive, Kyneton

We will offer an advanced level training session online on 2 July 2025 which will provide a more in-depth exploration of how to make your service more LGBTIQA+-inclusive.
