As part of the paper houses at parliament campaign, our origami houses were presented at Parliament House yesterday ahead of Homelessness Week.
We have been amazed by our local community’s engagement in the activity with local schools and family day care services supporting the initiative which aims to raise awareness of the need for more social and affordable housing.
Each of the 6000 origami houses sitting on the steps of parliament represents what Victoria needs to build each year to address the crisis. Lead by the Victorian Homelessness Network, the campaign asks that state and federal governments commit to:
- Building a steady ongoing pipeline of at least 6,000 new social houses in Victoria per year.
- Creating a national plan to end homelessness.
