What is Kid x Plus?

Kid x Plus is a free youth leadership project delivered by Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health in partnership with Sunbury Aboriginal Corporation and with support from Hume City Council’s Community Grants program and Sunbury Downs College.

Young people make up a large part of our community, but how many young people get to have a say about the issues that are important to them?  Decisions are made every day that will affect the future of young people, whether it is about health services, schools, the environment, or just about anything.  Kid x Plus aims to give young people between 9 and 25 years of age a voice in our community that can help shape the discussions about the issues that are important to them.  We do this by supporting young people to deliver a community event where they can give a speech or run an activity about the issues that matter to them.

We also have opportunities for young people to become involved as part of our event team.  If you have a passion for event management, photography or journalism for example, we encourage you to register to take part, even if you don’t want to be a Kid x Plus speaker.

How can I get involved?

There are three steps to getting involved in Kid X Plus:

  1. Register to take part
  2. Come to the speaker/event team support sessions
  3. Raise your voice at the Kid x Plus event!

Register to take part

The first thing to do is to register.  You can do this online using the ‘Register Now’ button at the top and bottom of this page.  If you are under 18 you will need to get your parent/guardian’s consent to complete the registration.  Registrations close on Friday 22 July.

Attend the speaker support sessions

Participants will be able to attend five speaker support sessions, where the Kid x Plus project team will support young people to develop their speech or other activity.  They are also a chance to get to know other Kid x Plus participants, share ideas, and of course have a bit of fun!

These sessions will be held at Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health, 12 -28 Macedon Street, Sunbury between 1pm and 3pm on the following days:

Saturday 23 July
Saturday 30 July
Saturday 6 August
Saturday 13 August
Saturday 20 August

Raise your voice at Kid x Plus!

The Kid x Plus event will be held on Saturday 27 August at Sunbury Downs College from 9am.  The audience will include members of the community, experts in the fields that our participants are passionate about and people with the authority to make the changes that young people are championing.
