Birds of a Feather: Julie Peters

Our list of interesting and inspirational speakers continues as we announce our first Birds of a Feather guest speaker for 2024.  Joining us next month will be Julie Peters.

Julie worked at the ABC for 50 years during which time in her late 30s she became the first employee to openly transition. This was at a time when there was little understanding around what it meant to be trans, plus there were no organisational policies in place to support her.

Now in her 70s Julie has had a varied career.  As well as being a media professional, she is a doctoral researcher (public health and the anthropology of gender/transgender), a teacher, sessional academic, cabaret performer, writer, parliamentary candidate and environmentalist.
